Mujeres de Maíz Solidarity Statement vs. ICE Raids in Los Angeles
As Mujeres de Maíz, a collective of Chicana, Latina, and Indigenous women rooted in holistic wellness, cultural expression, and community power, we denounce the ICE raids that are taking place across Los Angeles.
We reject the violence and fear imposed on our immigrant families, neighbors, and communities. These actions are part of a larger legacy of colonization, displacement, and state-sanctioned harm. They threaten not only physical safety, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our families, mothers, and children
Some of our sisters, joined many organizations and community leaders in unity and solidarity to stand and denounce what is taking place through the city of Los Angeles
For over 25 years, we have held space for healing, justice, and self-determination. We know that safety is not created through raids, detention, or fear—but through care, connection, and collective strength and tradition . We honor and stand with those directly impacted by today’s raids and uplift the power of community and dignity to protect, organize, and resist the violence and dehumanization of our workers and families
We call on our broader community to act and city officials and county leadership to call on all elected officials and stop the violent kidnapping and violation of human rights
Check in on each other and create a plan!

Declaración de solidaridad contra las redadas de ICE en Los Ángeles
Algunas de nuestras hermanas se unieron hoy a muchas organizaciones y líderes comunitarios en unidad y solidaridad para alzar la voz y denunciar lo que ocurrió en toda la ciudad de Los Ángeles.
Como Mujeres de Maíz, un colectivo de mujeres chicanas, latinas e indígenas comprometidas con el bienestar integral, la expresión cultural y el poder comunitario, denunciamos rotundamente las redadas de ICE que esta ocurrieriendo en Los Ángeles.
Rechazamos la violencia y el miedo que se impone sobre nuestras familias inmigrantes, vecinas y comunidades. Estas acciones son parte de una larga historia de colonización, desplazamiento y violencia avalada por el Estado. Amenazan no solo la seguridad física, sino también el bienestar mental, emocional y espiritual de nuestras familias, madres e hijxs.
Durante más de 25 años, hemos creado y sostenido espacios de sanación, justicia y autodeterminación. Sabemos que la seguridad verdadera no se construye con redadas, detenciones ni miedo—sino con cuidado, conexión, tradición y fuerza colectiva. Honramos y acompañamos a quienes fueron directamente afectadxs por las redadas y elevamos el poder de la comunidad y la dignidad para proteger, organizarse y resistir la violencia y deshumanización hacia nuestrxs trabajadores y familias.
Llamamos a nuestra comunidad en general a actuar—y exigimos a las autoridades de la ciudad y el condado que se pronuncien y pongan un alto a estos secuestros violentos y violaciones a los derechos humanos.

Across madre tierra, to the four corners of our personal and political landscapes and circles - there is a lot happening. It is unfortunate, but not entirely unexpected, that in roughly 10 days, new governance has taken actions that threaten our communities and decades of progress made through different programs and movement spaces. These actions represent direct assaults on many of our sistars and families across Turtle island and local communities here in Los Angeles which are still reeling from devastating fires. It is easy to feel hopeless and tired.
Mujeres de Maiz wants to send a love song, a tune, and a reminder as movement Auntie Grace Lee Boggs once said, “love is not about what we did yesterday, it’s about what we do today and the day after”. Many of us have been preparing for this moment and we are part of a movement. We are building community in many ways – through sistarhood, art, organizing and more. We are connecting with sistars and allies who live near us and share common values to create change and offer medicine, knowledge, support and songs — love songs for systemic change. This is what Mujeres de Maiz is honored to offer you in this moment — words of ancestral wisdom, connections and love for each other as we continue to build and connect through a web of sistarhood throughout the four corners of our barrios.
