Mujeres de Maiz: Reflexiones en Tiempos de COVID y Revolución

Join us for our roundtable presentation at the National Chicana Chicano Studies conference.

WATCH & PARTICIPATE via our Zoom Link HERE

Info/Abstract:

The roundtable participants will discuss the ways Mujeres de Maiz has adapted our creative, activist, healing work following the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic and the uprisings for racial and economic justice.

Due to our current climate, we had to get creative and reimagine the ways we utilize our online platforms to provide community programming and to express solidarity with current social movements including Black Lives Matter and immigration reform in Los Angeles and beyond.

Through Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, and Zoom, we have highlighted and elevated artists and activists, hosted mujeres mercados and self-care workshops, facilitated full moon circulos, and hosted informational chats about contemporary issues.

Going remote has also allowed us to reactivate our work on the Mujeres de Maiz anthology and continue the critical editorial labor to bring the project to fruition. When social distancing has made us feel the most distant, our goal is to create online community support systems and digital networks of care. Through this roundtable, we are eager to share our practices and also facilitate an interactive exchange with our audience about the different ways they have adapted through these difficult times.
