LA Freewaves will offer a free art HAPPENING, called FEMMMES, to explore femme spirits today in a public event. On the evening of SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2024, at the LOS ANGELES State Historic Park, this audacious and auspicious event will feature 12 artists and performances under a full moon on the solstice. We will engage Angelinos to experience empowered femmes while aiming to excite all attendees’ inner wishes.
In Lak Ech are Xicana Indigenous multimedia “artivists” who use poetry, drumming, film, and song to connect urban communities to ancestral land, water, and wind. Their multimedia performances educate, spark dialogue, and inspire resistance and change. “In Lak Ech” is a Mesoamerican concept meaning “you are my other me/tu eres mi otro yo”. They have been performing in the Los Angeles area since 1997, as part of the work of Mujeres de Maiz, a grassroots women’s artivist collective.
